LAS VEGAS--October 6, 2008--UNLV officially unveiled its new Academic Success Center, a centralized resource for students to set and maintain academic and career goals, receive advising, choose classes, hone graduation timeframes and more. The center aims squarely at streamlining student support services, an improvement expected to boost retention and graduation rates.
"The Academic Success Center is a supportive place for students to sort out challenges and to ensure their path to graduation is clear," said Ann McDonough, dean of the center.
The center offers a variety of workshops to help students balance their curriculum requirements with campus life. Examples include: time management; learning support; test-taking and anxiety-management strategies; overall advising; major selection; goal setting; resume writing; internship exploration and career advice. For additional information on the Academic Success Center, please call (702) 895-3177 or visit http://academicsuccess.unlv.edu.
A noon dedication of the Academic Success Center followed by an afternoon open house kicked off UNLV Academic Success Week, a concentrated effort to familiarize students with the array of services available to assist them in successfully completing academic pursuits.
