UNLV professors and representatives from several labor unions will join in discussion during "The Fight for America's Future: A Teach-In with the Labor Movement," Oct. 3, noon to 7 p.m., on the university campus in the Moyer Student Union.
The event is free and open to the public.
The goal of the conference is to stimulate dialogue between the university community and the trade union movement, according to UNLV economics professor and conference organizer Jeffrey Waddoups.
The event is being held in conjunction with similar teach-ins across the country on Oct. 3 and 4, according to Waddoups.
Along with the Nevada AFL-CIO, several unions will be represented at the UNLV event, including the Culinary Workers Union, Local 226; the United Food and Commercial Workers, Local 711; and the Service Employees International Union, Local 1107.
The event is being sponsored by the UNLV departments of sociology, economics, and women's studies, as well as the AFL-CIO, the Culinary Workers Union, the Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada, the Nevada Faculty Alliance AAUP, and the Southern Nevada chapter of the Industrial Relations Research Association.
