Graduate students from UNLV's Greenspun College of Urban Affair's department of counseling recently learned that they successfully completed the national Marriage and Family Therapy Licensure Exam, which they took in January.
This is the third year in a row that all of the department of counseling students who have sought licensure in marriage and family therapy have passed the exam.
A total of nine UNLV graduate students took the exam, which is administered by the national Association of Marital and Family Regulatory Boards. All persons wishing to be licensed as marriage and family therapists must successfully pass the exam in order to practice in Nevada in this field of counseling.
The UNLV graduate students scored an average of 84 percent on the exam, compared to the national average of 74.5 percent, said Mark Odell, assistant professor of counseling.
Students take the exam when they have finished their coursework in the master of science program. Students who already have a master's degree or higher also take the exam in order to become licensed.
