UNLV doctoral student Greg Richens has been honored by two teacher-education organizations for his work on an ongoing research project.

Richens' project, "Workplace Basic Skills Revisited: A Survey of Southern Nevada Employers Regarding the Necessity of SCANS Skills for Entry-level Employment and Subsequent Development of Related SCANS Curriculum," was one of two projects honored nationally by two organizations that together sponsor the Graduate Research Symposium.

Richens will present his work at the symposium, which will take place in Orlando, Fla., in December. The sponsoring organizations are the National Association of Industrial and Technical Teacher Educators and the Technology Education Division of the Association for Career and Technical Education.

He also will travel to Sydney, Australia, to present his project at the International Vocational Education and Training Conference in August.

Richens, who is pursuing a doctoral degree in education, is working on the research project as part of his graduate assistant position in the School to Careers Professional Development Center in UNLV's College of Education.
