It was Robert Crawford's culinary creation of a garlic stuffed lamb loin with saut?ed mushrooms and rainbow chard, parsnip puree, horseradish jus, and mint oil that won him the S. Pellegrino Mountain West Regional Almost Famous Competition Feb. 4.
Crawford, a student-chef at the UNLV William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration, competed against nine other students from regional culinary schools. UNLV has participated in this competition six times and this year is the fifth time a UNLV student has won.
Crawford is going to compete in the national Almost Famous Chef Competition at the Culinary Institute of America in Napa Valley, March 5 to March 8, where $20,000 in prize money and the title of the Next Almost Famous Chef is at stake.
