UNLV President Carol C. Harter and Athletic Director Charles Cavagnaro on Wednesday reviewed Big West Conference Commissioner Dennis Farrell's findings on the altercations at last Saturday's UNLV-UNR football game and stated they are in agreement with the commissioner's recommendations and will implement them immediately.
"After consulting with Commissioner Farrell, President Joseph Crowley of UNR, and Charlie Cavagnaro, I fully support the commissioner's findings," Harter said. "I was appalled and dismayed by the actions of members of both teams at Saturday's football game. I do not condone violence of any kind at a sporting event, and I will not tolerate it in intercollegiate athletics."
Cavagnaro, who also consulted with Commissioner Farrell on the matter, said, "We are already taking steps to comply with the recommendations. We intend to do whatever is necessary to prevent this type of violence in any of our sports. Intrastate rivalries of the kind we share with UNR add a special excitement and interest to intercollegiate athletics. It is absolutely necessary that we keep this rivalry wholesome and in the spirit of good athletic competition."
