After two years of designing and building the solar-powered home, DesertSol, UNLV's Team Las Vegas is preparing to transport the home to the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon 2013 in Irvine, Calif. Members of the community are invited to join the team in a special ceremony and take a tour of DesertSol before its trip to the competition. UNLV is among 20 teams selected from universities around the world to compete in this prestigious contest.

UNLV Paradise Campus, at the corner of Tropicana Avenue and Swenson Street. DesertSol is in the grass lot behind the campus.
Details
The U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon 2013 is an international competition with the goal of educating the public about energy-saving residential designs. It requires collegiate teams to design, build and maintain a sustainable solar-powered home. These are student-run projects, with guidance and support from faculty members, industry mentors and community supporters.
