Patricia Iannuzzi, associate university librarian at the University of California, Berkeley, has been named Dean of Libraries at UNLV, effective February 7.
Iannuzzi currently serves as the director of the Doe and Moffitt Libraries and interim director of collections at the University of California, Berkeley, where she has been since 2000. She has served on the Presidential Committee on Information Literacy Partnerships for the American Library Association, and has presented papers on various topics pertaining to the library's role in undergraduate education. In addition, she co-designed and co-facilitated two evaluation workshops, sponsored by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
"Patricia understands the central role of information literacy in the learning environment and how to mobilize faculty and staff to enhance the educational experience," said UNLV Executive Vice President and Provost Ray Alden. "Clearly, she will advance UNLV's model of a student-focused, research university."
Iannuzzi earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Yale University in 1976, and later went on to receive a master's degree from the Simmons College Graduate School of Library and Information Science in 1981.
"I am looking forward to being part of another dynamic and innovative organization that is committed to the balance between teaching and research," said Iannuzzi, who brings 20 years of experience to the position. "UNLV shows that it is eager to explore innovations and embrace change to meet the challenges of a contemporary urban university."
The Dean of Libraries at UNLV oversees all libraries on campus, including the Lied, Curriculum Materials, Music, and Architecture Studies libraries.
