UNLV is one of only four universities in the nation to receive an award this year from the International Society for Technology in Education in recognition of its use of technology.
UNLV has been selected to receive the society's National Educational Technology Standards Distinguished Achievement Award for 2003 for its use of technology in its teacher preparation program. The award will be presented at the 24th annual National Educational Computing Conference in Seattle later this month.
"We've worked diligently to incorporate technology into both the teaching and learning aspects of our teacher preparation program," said Neal Strudler, professor of educational computing and technology. "We know that teachers in today's classrooms must be familiar with the latest technological advances, and we strive to make sure our graduates are properly prepared to meet that challenge."
Strudler said UNLV's Education College uses many forms of computer-based technology in its teacher preparation program, including WebCT and digital video.
"Being selected for this award affirms the success of our efforts," he said. "But we won't stop here. We know that as technology evolves, we will need to keep abreast of those changes and bring them into our classrooms. UNLV and the College of Education have an ongoing commitment to this endeavor."
