The UNLV College of Health Sciences received a grant recently from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to provide traineeships to students in its graduate nursing program.
The $20,000 Advanced Nursing Education Traineeship grant was awarded through HHS' Health Resources and Service Administration (HRSA) to help UNLV address the emerging shortage of specialized nurse practitioners.
Beginning this fall semester, seven students will receive funds to offset the cost of tuition, books, and fees for the duration of their one-year traineeships. As part of the grant program, recipients will be required to complete clinical practicums in designated health professional shortage areas and/or medically underserved areas.
To qualify for the grant, a student must be pursuing a master's degree in UNLV's nursing program and studying to become a family nurse practitioner, pediatric nurse practitioner, or a clinical nurse specialist.
The Advanced Education Nurse Traineeship grant program is funded under Title VII of the Public Health Service Act and is administered by the HRSA Bureau of Health Professions Division of Nursing.
