UNLV is proud to present "Trading Places: an Exhibition Featuring the Work of Killefer Flammang Architects and Marnell Corrao Associates" May 19 - June 11 in the Donna Beam Fine Art Gallery, located inside the Alta Ham Fine Arts Building. The exhibit - a celebration of the Las Vegas Centennial featuring digital photography of some of Las Vegas' most recognizable landmarks - also coincides with the American Institute of Architect's 2005 National Convention and Design Exposition May 19-21 at Mandalay Bay.
In addition, the exhibition, "The Power of Promise: Artists Respond in Las Vegas," will be on display in the UNLV Marjorie Barrick Museum of Natural History May 19 - June 18. The exhibit features painting, installation, photography, sculpture, and graphics.
UNLV art professor Robert Tracy curates both exhibitions, which are funded in part by a Las Vegas 2005 Centennial grant, the College of Fine Arts, the School of Architecture, and the Department of Art, UNLV.
Gallery walks for the "Trading Places" and "The Power of Promise" exhibitions will be held from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 19 and from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday, May 20. The "Trading Places" reception will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 19. The exhibits, gallery walks, and reception are all free and open to the public.
Wade Killefer founded the firm that has become Killefer Flammang Architects in 1975; Barbara Flammang joined him in 1980. In 29 years of practice, the firm has developed a portfolio of municipal and educational buildings and urban housing in California and southern Nevada. The firm specializes in public buildings and affordable housing and has designed more than 6,000 residential units in southern California, many of which are in historic buildings
Marnell Corrao is the company responsible for the design and building of some of Nevada's oldest and fastest growing hotel/casino companies, such as MGM/Mirage, Harrah's Entertainment, Caesars Palace, the Boyd Group, and Wynn Resorts. Anthony Marnell also is the former chairman and chief executive officer of Rio Hotel & Casino, Inc.
The Donna Beam Fine Art Gallery is open Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free.
