The UNLV dance department presents "Second Time Around," a dance concert directed by Carole Rae, professor and department founder, at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. May 4 in the Alta Ham Fine Arts Building Dance Studio 1 on the UNLV campus. All of the 25 performers in the concert are 40 to 76-years-old and will perform a variety of dance styles including ballet, modern dance, jazz, ethnic, tap, and musical theatre.
Many of the performers are actively involved in the dance profession as teachers, producers, studio owners, hotel industry dancers, cabaret dancers, or have their own theatrical-related businesses.
"Several dancers are well-known and respected personalities in the casino and Broadway dance world, including Heather Victorson, Tara Foy, Margo Torea, Susan Abbott, Jamey Gallagher, Mitch Hale, Todd Williams, and Garold Gardner," Rae said.
Gardner, a longtime Las Vegas teacher, choreographer, and musical theatre director will dance a duet with Indranee Clarke from "The Boyfriend." Middle Eastern dancers include Donna Machon, a.k.a. "Nadia," and Belda Stack. Coral Citron and members of her company will perform Flamenco, and Brigid Kelly will interpret Argentine Tango. Torea, Gardner, Clarke, and Machon are on the dance faculty at UNLV.
Also featured will be Nury DePiazza and Ginger Rossiter who both direct local high school dance programs at Liberty and Coronado High Schools respectively. Susan Thorvick, UNLV tap instructor, will perform a duet with Alma Zivic, the concert's oldest performer. After retiring from tapping in nightclub and hotel production shows, Zivic had a long second career as a psychologist with the Clark County School District.
