These issues and many others will weigh on voters as they cast their ballots for the next President of the United States this November. As many students prepare to vote for the first time, the UNLV Department of Political Science will present an Election Issues Forum this Monday, October 11 from 5:00-7:00 PM at UNLV's Tam Alumni Center. Six distinguished professors, with varying ideological viewpoints and areas of expertise, will engage an audience of students and community members in a provocative discussion, designed to explore and illuminate the many issues shaping this year's campaign. Television news anchor Jeff Gillan, host of Las Vegas One's NewsONE at 9 and InBusiness Las Vegas programs, will moderate the session.
"There are many complex issues weighing on the minds of voters this year," said Mehran Tamadonfar, Chair, Department of Political Science. "We are pleased to present this forum as an opportunity for interactive discussion on these issues. In a year where so much emphasis has been placed on the importance of young voter action, our studentshave many questions and are seeking more information than ever before. We're anticipating an outstanding session."
Panel participants will include professors of Political Science David Fott - expert in political thought, philosophy and American government and politics; David Damore - expert in public opinion and congressional politics; Kenneth Fernandez - expert in public policy, American politics and research methods; Ted Jelen -expert in religion and politics, political behavior, public opinion, research methodology and history of political thought; Michelle Kuenzi - expert in African politics and research methodology; and Ann Ward - expert in ancient political philosophy, history of political philosophy and feminist theory.
Interested members of the public are invited to attend and participate in interactive session, along with UNLV students, faculty and staff. The Tam Alumni Center is located on the East side of the UNLV campus, adjacent to the Maryland Parkway/Harmon Avenue entrance.
