The Performing Arts Center at UNLV presents The Chieftains, Ireland's premier musical ambassadors, at 8 p.m. on Saturday, January 31 as part of The World Stage series.
With a career that spans four decades and 40 albums, The Chieftains are the most enduring and influential creative force in establishing the international appeal of Celtic music. Winners of five Grammy Awards, the Irish foursome have circumnavigated the globe many times, making new friends in every corner of the earth. Their virtuosity is peerless, and their spirit is infectious.
The Chieftains include Paddy Maloney, Uileann pipes and tin whistle; Kevin Conneff, bodhran and vocals; Sean Keane, fiddle; and Matt Molloy, flute. The band spreads its gospel of lyricism through performances with symphony orchestras, ballet companies, rock stars, and ethnic ensembles of every description.
Tickets to The Chieftains are $35, $45, and $60 and can be purchased at the Performing Arts Center Box Office at 895-ARTS (2787) or by visiting UNLVTickets.com. Student rush tickets are $10 each and available one hour prior to each event, based on availability and with valid student I.D. UNLV faculty and staff discounts also are available. The box office is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Information about all of the season's performances can be found on the Performing Arts Center website.
Founded in 1976, the Performing Arts Center at UNLV continues to be Southern Nevada's premier performing arts venue. Located on the north end of the UNLV campus, and served by a recently built parking garage, the PAC hosts a variety of performances each year in three very distinct series - the Charles Vanda Master Series, Best of the New York Stage, and The World Stage. UNLV and KLVX Channel 10 are graciously sponsoring the 2003-2004 Season, "A Season of Colors."
