The UNLV Performing Arts Center welcomes the Prague Symphony orchestra - led by new phenomenon Ratislav Stur - as part of the Charles Vanda Master Series at 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 19. Hailed by critics as "winning and admirable," this full symphony comes to Las Vegas with a stunning performance of Beethoven's Symphony No. 6.
Since the orchestra was founded in 1934, many important conductors of the world have appeared with it as guests, as well as a remarkable range of soloists. The orchestra has performed in the U.S., Japan, most countries of Europe, and also has visited South America, Taiwan, Turkey, and Israel, among others.
Another testament to the orchestra's work is its extensive catalogue of CD, radio, and television recordings including both Czech and worldwide repertoire. Many of its commercial recordings have been made for the Supraphon label, in addition to numerous other labels.
Tickets to the Prague Symphony Orchestra are $45, $60, and $90 and can be purchased at the Performing Arts Center Box Office at 895-ARTS (2787) or by visiting UNLVTickets.com. Student rush tickets are $12.50 each and available one hour prior to each event, based on availability and with valid student I.D. UNLV faculty and staff discounts also are available. A $.50 facilities fee, in addition to the ticket price, is charged on all Performing Arts Center tickets. The box office is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Information about all of the season's performances can be found on the Performing Arts Center website, located at http://pac.nevada.edu.
