Beginning later this month, students who already have completed approximately two years of college will be able to finish their college educations at home, earning a degree in social science studies from UNLV via distance education technology.
"Students with only two years of college coursework remaining who find it impractical or impossible to attend classes on campus now can complete their degrees at home. All they need is access to a computer that uses Netscape 3.0 or above, a VCR, and the desire to earn their bachelor's degree," said Charlotte Farr, UNLV's director of distance education.
"This program is intended for students who have approximately 60 credits to transfer from a community college or another university, including a lab science course," Farr said. "In some cases, students with slightly less than 60 credits will be eligible if the general education requirements they need to fill can be met through some of our other distance education offerings," she added.
The bachelor of arts degree in social science studies is tailored to students seeking a wide range of knowledge applicable to a variety of careers, Farr said. An interdisciplinary degree, it is designed to develop life-long skills in critical and creative thinking, problem solving, effective communication, and intercultural understanding through an individualized course of study.
Major areas of concentration in the social science studies program will include history, political science, and psychology.
