The Nevada Board of Regents approved a new Ph.D. program in public affairs during their June 4 meeting. The program will be housed in the new School of Public Affairs within the Greenspun College of Urban Affairs at UNLV.
The interdisciplinary degree will serve as the nexus between the academic community and the world of service and practice in the private, nonprofit, and public sectors. It is designed to prepare students who already possess a master's degree for a career in research, consulting, or public policy analysis, or to teach at the college level.
Examples of substantive topics students can study include leadership and management, program evaluation, social policy, criminal justice, human resource management, and public communication. The degree will require 46 credits in post-master's degree courses. The college expects to enroll its first cohort of students in the fall of 2004.
