Dr. Raymond Moody, who holds the Bigelow Chair of Consciousness Studies at UNLV, will teach a course during the 2002 spring semester titled "Grief and Spiritual Experiences - course number CNS 311X."

In the course, students will study and discuss the psychological, medical, philosophical, and spiritual aspects of the grieving process.

Classes will be held on Wednesday evenings from 7-9:15 p.m., with the first class beginning on Jan. 23.

"By offering this course, we hope to serve the community in the wake of the events of Sept. 11," Moody said. "One of the topics that we will discuss in this class is post-traumatic stress because of its widespread occurrence after the September attacks."

In addition, Moody will present to students the preliminary findings of his new, long-term research project on the afterlife.

Moody, who holds a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Virginia and an M.D. from the Medical College of Georgia, has authored several books, including his most recent, Life After Loss: Conquering Grief and Finding Hope, Life After Life, The Light Beyond, and Laugh After Laugh: Humor in Relation to Health and Illness. He also has authored numerous articles on near-death experiences that have been published in scholarly journals.
