UNLV's Honors College is offering advanced seminars this summer to local gifted high school students interested in getting a jump start on their college careers.
Summer Advanced Gifted Education (SAGE) seminars will be held July 18-Aug. 5, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., on the UNLV campus. The intensive, three-week seminars are designed for freshmen through senior high school students who have been identified as gifted by the Clark County School District, named National Merit Scholars or finalists, or who are currently enrolled in honors or advanced placement courses in high school.
Each SAGE seminar is the equivalent of one semester-long college course and is taught by faculty specially selected for the gifted population. Seminar topics will include the following:
- Creative Writing
- Effective Public Speaking
- International Relations
- Science and Society
- Shakespeare's Stage
In the seminars, students read the most recent literature in these subject areas, engage in discussions and debates, learn valuable study habits, and conduct individual research. Students who successfully complete the seminars will earn three college credits.
Tuition is $750 per seminar, which also includes daily lunches in the UNLV Dining Commons and a UNLV parking pass. The cost of textbooks, estimated to be around $60, is not included. Scholarships are available.

The SAGE Academy is co-sponsored by the UNLV Honors College, the Office of Educational Outreach, and the Las Vegas World Affairs Council.
