Residents of southern Clark County who have wished they could take UNLV courses closer to home soon will have that desire fulfilled. Beginning this summer, UNLV will offer classes in Henderson.
The first six classes, which will include business, economics, education, and management information systems, will be offered during the second summer session. That session runs from June 7 through July 9.
Those classes will be followed by another five classes during the third summer session, July 12 through Aug. 13, and another 21 courses that will be offered for fall semester 1999.
All the courses will be held at the Henderson campus of the Community College of Southern Nevada at 700 College Drive or at the new Foothill High School across the street.
"We're offering courses in Henderson in direct response to requests from the public," said Barbara Cloud, UNLV's associate provost for academic affairs. "Our marketing research shows a high demand for our courses to be offered in Henderson.
"We're pleased to be able to begin fulfilling that need by offering a variety of both graduate courses and upper-division undergraduate classes," Cloud said. "If there is sufficient interest, we would hope to be able to expand our offerings in Henderson in the future. The community college, of course, already is meeting the need for lower-division undergraduate classes there.
"People will find that there is easy access to the community college campus from U.S. 95 via the College Drive exit and free parking once they reach the campus," she said.
