UNLV's International Gaming Institute (IGI) will host a seminar on casino auditing Oct. 20-21 in the Stan Fulton Building on the UNLV campus. Topics to be covered during the two-day seminar include the following:
- ? Management's Responsibility to Internal Control
- ? Internal Audit and the Regulatory Process
- ? Currency Transaction Reporting
- ? Minimum Internal Control Standards and the System of Internal Control
- ? Casino Cage, Slots, and Table Games
- ? Analyzing Casino Operations
- ? Casino Fraud
The seminar will be beneficial for gaming regulators responsible for conducting casino audits, commissioners and other senior officials with regulatory policy-making responsibilities, and internal auditors and independent accountants.
The instructors for the seminar are industry veterans Jim Fox, certified internal auditor and fraud examiner; and Kevin Malley, certified public accountant.
Fox is currently employed by Jefferson Wells International and has over 20 years of experience in the internal audit profession. He co-authored "Casino Operations Management" and is a faculty member at UNLV, where he teaches a course in auditing of the gaming industry. Most recently, he served as vice president of internal audit for the MGM Mirage.
Malley has over 31 years of consulting and senior management experience in the resort, hotel and casino industry, including a position as president and CEO of the Desert Inn Hotel and Casino. He co-authored "Internal Control for Casinos," a publication of the Nevada Society of CPAs.
