WHEN: Wednesday, August 6, 2008, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
WHERE: UNLV Foundations Building, Blasco Event Wing
Off Cottage Grove St. and Maryland Pkwy.
DETAILS: Nearly seven years after the attacks of 9/11, the need to be vigilant to the signs of terrorism is as great as ever. In coordination with the opening of the Southern Nevada Counter-Terrorism Center, the ISS developed a free DVD (in both English and Spanish) for groups in Nevada most likely to be in a position to observe the signs of a potential terrorist plot. Groups include general security, public school security, airport security, transit workers and hospitality employees, in addition the general public.
A panel of experts will discuss the production and field questions. Panelists include Scott Smith, executive director of the ISS; Dr. Dale Carrison, chair of the Nevada Commission on Homeland Security; Rick Eaton, director of the Nevada Department of Homeland Security; and Lieutenant Tom Monahan of the LVMPD.
The event is free and open to the public. Similar roll-outs will be held in central and northern Nevada throughout August. Local emergency planning commissions will be responsible for distributing more than 20,000 DVDs. For more information on DVD availability, contact the ISS at 939-4644.
