DATE: Saturday, March 28, 2009
TIME: 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
LOCATION: UNLV Campus
UNLV's Lied Library and Student Recreation & Wellness Center (SRWC) will "go dark" from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on March 28 as the university and the City of Las Vegas participate in Earth Hour 2009 - a global event calling for action on climate change.
Las Vegas will lead more than 1,500 cities in 80 countries as individuals, businesses, government buildings, schools and major landmarks turn off non-essential lighting in what will be the largest climate change awareness event in history. In addition to the two buildings on UNLV's campus, many hotel-casinos on the Las Vegas Strip, the "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" sign and a host of government agencies and local businesses will go dark during Earth Hour.
UNLV will host an Earth Hour viewing party with food and entertainment for students, faculty and staff outside the university's Dayton Complex near the SRWC beginning at 8 p.m. Community members are also encouraged to take an online pledge to turn their home lights off during Earth Hour.
