University of Nevada, Las Vegas President David B. Ashley today announced that in its third public quarter, the university's Invent the Future campaign brought in more than $17 million, pushing the overall campaign total over $334 million. This announcement caps a record-breaking fundraising year for the university, which during fiscal year 2005-06 saw its net total of private support grow to more than $42 million.
The Invent the Future campaign, which is the university's first-ever comprehensive fundraising effort, was launched to the public in September 2005, with $263 million raised during its "quiet" or nucleus gifts phase. The goal of the campaign is to raise $500 million by the end of 2008.
Ashley observed that the continuing upward trend in private support is a great indicator for the future of the university. "The community has a clear interest and investment in the long-term success of this university," he said. "The growth in private support shows momentum for the campaign, as well as for the future development of UNLV."
As of June 30, 2006, the Invent the Future campaign has raised $139,116,808 in gift revenue received to date, and $195,729,103 in longer-term pledges and commitments, for a total of $334,593,834.
Fundraising priorities for the Invent the Future campaign include endowments to assist with recruitment and retention of top students and faculty; funds to provide enhanced learning opportunities through scholarships, fellowships and other programs; and funds toward innovative learning environments, through new and renovated facilities and special equipment. The campaign is the largest effort of its type in state history.
