University of Nevada, Las Vegas President Carol C. Harter today announced that in only its second public quarter, the university's Invent the Future campaign brought in more than $17 million, pushing the overall campaign total over $317 million. The campaign, which is the university's first-ever comprehensive fundraising effort, was launched to the public in September 2005, with $263 million raised during its "quiet" or nucleus gifts phase. The goal of the campaign is to raise $500 million by the end of 2008.
Harter attributes this early success to the hard work of many volunteers. Volunteers serving on more than 45 boards support the university by cultivating relationships between campus and community, and providing expert advice on professional trends, as well as helping to raise funds.
"Volunteers are the heart and soul of this campaign," said Harter. "From faculty and staff members to supporters all over the world, they are the front-line ambassadors for UNLV. They serve the university in countless ways - not just by raising funds. These are the people working hard to invent a great future for our university and our entire community, and we are extremely grateful for their efforts."
As of March 31, 2006, the Invent the Future campaign has raised $124,395,009 in gift revenue received to date, and $192,729,103 in longer-term pledges and commitments, for a total of $317,124,112.
Fundraising priorities for the Invent the Future campaign include endowments to assist with recruitment and retention of top students and faculty; funds to provide enhanced learning opportunities through scholarships, fellowships and other programs; and funds toward innovative learning environments, through new and renovated facilities and special equipment. The campaign is the largest effort of its type in state history.
