Susan Thompson, UNLV's International Programs director, was honored at the 50th anniversary conference of the Association of International Educators as this year's recipient of the Lily von Klemperer Award.
The award honors individuals who have shown a commitment to the field of international education, a willingness to mentor others, and a maintenance of high ethical standards. It was founded 10 years ago to honor the contributions to the development of the field of international education by Lily von Klemperer.
The AIE (formerly known as the National Association of Foreign Student Advisors) is the largest professional organization in the field of international higher education.
Thompson, who also received the UNLV President's Professional Staff Member of the Year Award for 1998, serves the AIE as a board member of Region XII for education abroad, as the Nevada state representative to the board of Region XII, and as a member of the National Trainer Corps. for the organization.
Thompson received both her bachelor's and masters degrees from UNLV; she became director of International Programs in 1990. Previously, Thompson held the position of program coordinator in UNLV's Division of Continuing Education.
