Jean Hertzman, a chef instructor with UNLV's William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration, has been named the 1998 Chef of the Year by the Fraternity of Executive Chefs of Las Vegas, American Culinary Federation.
Chef Hertzman, a UNLV faculty member since 1994, earned her culinary education certification in 1997. Elected to the board of the Fraternity of Executive Chefs of Las Vegas in 1996, she was also appointed as a chairperson to the fraternity the same year. Chef Hertzman has also been elected to the position of secretary for the fraternity twice.
Classes taught by Chef Hertzman include hands-on restaurant management classes as well as lecture classes in hospitality purchasing and food-service-operations fundamentals. She holds a bachelor's degree from Cornell University and a master's degree from Tulane University.
