UNLV and Clark County have partnered to offer free informational sessions to community members who have questions about the Biden-Harris administration’s student loan debt forgiveness program.
The seven free workshops — to be held Oct. 24 through Nov. 16 — follow the White House announcement of a plan to provide up to $20,000 in debt relief to Pell Grant recipients, and up to $10,000 for other borrowers. It is estimated that over 500,000 Nevadans are eligible to apply by December 2023.
UNLV financial experts will explain eligibility parameters for the debt forgiveness program and the Public Service Loan Forgiveness limited waiver, expected outcomes, and borrowers' next steps. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session.
“As inflation continues to rise, student loan debt relief remains top of mind for many Southern Nevadans and we want to make certain our community understands all that is required to access this financial assistance during these challenging economic times,” said Zachary Goodwin, executive director of financial aid at UNLV. The university’s financial aid office, along with the offices of admissions and government and community engagement, are collaborating to host the sessions.
