Gaming regulators from South Africa and Canada will join dozens of their U.S. counterparts next week to attend the 1996 Gaming Regulator Seminar Series at UNLV.
More than four dozen gaming regulators will converge on the campus to learn the latest in casino management techniques from UNLV faculty, members of the Nevada Gaming Control Board, and representatives of Nevada's gaming industry.
The seminar, titled "An Introduction to the Regulation of Casinos," will begin Monday (June 24) and continue through Friday (June 28).
Representatives of 12 states, ranging from Arizona to Connecticut and from Washington to Florida, will participate in the seminar. Many of the regulators are involved with Indian reservation gaming.
The series is sponsored by the UNLV International Gaming Institute and the Nevada Gaming Control Board.
"UNLV and the International Gaming Institute are pleased to once again be able to provide what we hope will be a valuable learning experience for gaming regulators, whether they are from the United States or from one of the other nations sending representatives to the series," said Vince Eade, director of the UNLV International Gaming Institute.
"We choose topics that we feel are both timely and important for the effective regulation of the gaming industry."
Among the seminar topics scheduled for next week are introduction and history of gaming, regulatory system overview, casino surveillance procedures, prevention of slot and table game cheating, and auditing.
An advanced seminar, titled "Advanced Principles of Casino Auditing," will be offered at UNLV July 29-31.
