Business managers from both the private sector and non-profit organizations will learn the latest techniques in prevention and management of crisis situations when UNLV hosts the seventh annual Crisis Management Seminar July 28-30.
Cosponsored by the Nevada Small Business Development Center (NSBDC) and the firm founded by crisis management expert Larry Barton, the seminar will feature speakers from six countries and 40 corporations, emergency response agencies, and government entities.
Topics discussed will include evacuation of sites during emergency situations, proper response to incidents such as workplace violence and employee theft, and reduction of business risk as it relates to millennium software and embedded chip problems.
"The risks in managing an organization have never been greater," said Sharolyn Craft, director of the NSBDC, "and we will focus not on insurance and liability, but rather on how to prevent incidents and manage those that do occur."
New to this year's program is a simulated disaster sponsored by area fire departments. During the exercise, seminar participants will assume the roles of decision makers who must respond to a variety of situations devised to illustrate the challenges of a crisis situation.
