UNLV faculty members Shannon Bybee and Jim Kilby will be presenters this weekend at an executive development seminar at Duke University sponsored by ITT Corp. for its executives.
"Gaming Operations" will be the topic when Bybee, director of UNLV's International Gaming Institute, and Kilby, a lecturer in hotel management, speak to ITT executives at the gathering.
They will present information on the economics of gaming, gaming regulation and control, and gaming management.
"ITT - one of the most prestigious companies in the world - could have selected any educational institution to participate. The fact that they chose UNLV is an honor," said Vince Eade, who previously headed UNLV's International Gaming Institute and now serves as assistant dean for business and administration in UNLV's William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration.
Eade also said that it is a sign of changing times that a major corporation is looking to the academic world for information on gaming. "In the past, corporations have not looked to university campus environments for gaming experience," he said, adding that the decision of ITT to work with UNLV and Duke shows that universities have gaming experience "that can and should be sought out."
