Cabinetry designed to be accessible to the handicapped, door security systems designed to thwart break-ins, and a shower control valve the will keep the water temperature at a pre-designated setting are among the design projects that will be presented by UNLV engineering students at two events in May.
Seniors in the Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering first will present their senior design projects at a competition on May 7. The winning designers then will be honored at a dinner on May 9 at which Paul Folino, chairman and CEO of Emulex Corp., the world's largest supplier of computer storage network connectivity solutions, will be the keynote speaker.
The public is invited to both events. The Senior Design Competition is free. Tickets to the dinner are $100 each. Tickets must be purchased by May 2 and are available by calling 895-2913.
The design competition will take place 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. May 7 in the Great Hall, located in Building A of the Thomas Beam Engineering Building.
The dinner is scheduled for 6 p.m. May 9 at UNLV's Cox Pavilion. Keynote dinner speaker Folino heads Emulex, a company that "Forbes" magazine recently named one of the top 25 fastest-growing technology companies.
