UNLV's Jean Nidetch Women's Center will sponsor its fifth annual interactive dinner theater event March 22 in an effort to educate the public about the issue of sexual assault.
This year's presentation, "Party Favors," will focus on acquaintance and date rape resulting from the use of drugs and alcohol. The complex nature of sexual violence will be depicted through four vignettes that take place in different settings, such as a rave party, a fraternity party, and a bar. UNLV students direct, act in, and provide the technical support for the presentation.
Following the play, Theresa Lowry, chief deputy district attorney from the Clark County District Attorney's Office, and representatives from UNLV's public safety department will answer questions from the audience.
The event will take place in the ballroom of the Moyer Student Union, beginning with a buffet dinner at 5:30 p.m. sponsored by the Alexis Park Resort and Spa. The play is scheduled to begin at 6:15 p.m. Tickets are $5, which includes both the dinner and the theater event. They may be purchased by calling the women's center at 895-4475.
Organizers of the event advise that the program will include the portrayal of adult situations and language. They further suggest that the event may not be appropriate for children under the age of 13.
