Edward J. Shoben has been appointed dean of UNLV's College of Liberal Arts. Shoben received his Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1974. He most recently served as head of the department of psychology at the University of Illinois where he holds the rank of full professor. He will assume the UNLV post Aug. 1.
The College of Liberal Arts is composed of 10 departments, including anthropology and ethnic studies, English, the English Language Center, foreign languages, history, philosophy, political science, psychology, sociology and women's studies. The college also houses eight programs/centers and six college development areas.
