Applications now are being accepted for the newly formed College of Business Alumni Association at UNLV.
The new association is a joint effort of the College of Business (COB) and the UNLV Alumni Association. Applications for membership can be obtained by calling the UNLV Alumni Association at 895-3621. Requirements for joining include membership in the university Alumni Association, affiliation with the UNLV COB, and $45 in annual dues.
The first board of directors meeting for the new COB Alumni Association will take place in September. Richard Flaherty, dean of the College of Business, will appoint 15 people to the board before the first meeting. College alumni interested in serving on the board or providing other assistance to the new association should call Flaherty at 895-3362.
Kevin Page, president of the UNLV Alumni Association, said that COB alumni have the largest single college representation in the UNLV Alumni Association. Approximately 1,000 COB alumni are dues-paying members of the university Alumni Association. Most are active and successful in business and many have already expressed willingness to help advance the COB to national prominence under Flaherty's leadership, Page said.
The COB Alumni Board and association members will have an exciting and diverse program to implement, Flaherty said. The objectives of the alumni group are to facilitate communication and other interaction between the college and its alumni and to generate alumni support of the college.
More specifically, the board and members will develop programs and other activities relevant to Business College issues and generate endowment and other funds through the UNLV Foundation to meet some of the needs of the college, the dean said. The board also will create programs designed to help members of the COB Alumni Association meet their professional and personal goals.
