UNLV will commemorate World AIDS Day with a variety of activities next week, including a display of sections of the AIDS Memorial Quilt and a candlelight walk and vigil.
Activities will take place Nov. 27 through Dec. 2. World AIDS Day is Dec. 1. One highlight of the week's activities is the display of panels from the AIDS Memorial Quilt. Each panel represents someone who has died from AIDS. The quilt sections will be on display from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Nov. 27 through Dec. 1 in the ballroom of the Moyer Student Union and in the Rod Lee Bigelow Health Sciences Building.
On Dec. 1, a candlelight walk and vigil will take place. The walk will begin at 5 p.m. at the Alumni Amphitheatre and will end at the AIDS Memorial Garden near the Bigelow Health Sciences Building. The alumni amphitheatre is located slightly north of the Moyer Student Union.
Throughout the week, a food drive will be held to benefit the food banks of PAWS (Pets Are Wonderful Support) and AFAN (Aid for AIDS of Nevada). Separate barrels for donations of both pet food and people food will be located in the Moyer Student Union and in the Bigelow Health Sciences Building.
