Applications are now being accepted for the newly established College of Liberal Arts Alumni Association at UNLV.
The new association is a joint activity of the College of Liberal Arts and the UNLV Alumni Association. Applications for membership can be obtained by calling the association at 895-3621. An annual fee of $45 includes membership in the UNLV Alumni Association and in the College of Liberal Arts Alumni Association.
James Frey, dean of the College of Liberal Arts, will also be forming a Board of Directors to guide the activities of the college association. The first meeting of this group is scheduled for April 2002. Persons interested in serving on this 15-member board should contact Frey at 895-3401.
"We at the UNLV Alumni Association are excited about the prospect of the College of Liberal Arts forming an alumni association," said Kevin Page, president of the UNLV Alumni Association. "We know from personal experience that when alumni become re-involved with their university, both the individuals and the institution benefit."
The college's alumni board and association members will represent the college and its departments to the community, plan events for college alumni, provide career and occupational information to liberal arts students, participate in college fund-raising activities, and promote communication between college alumni and the larger UNLV Alumni Association.
"The formation of a College of Liberal Arts Alumni Association is an important step to achieving the larger goal of enhancing the relationship of graduates in sociology, psychology, interdisciplinary programs, philosophy, political science, anthropology, women's studies, foreign languages, history, and English to the university," Frey said. "College alumni can provide valuable support for liberal arts graduates and for the programs of the college. Affiliation with the college and university alumni associations will also help members meet their professional and personal goals."
