The University of Nevada, Las Vegas will welcome the class of 2014 at its winter commencement ceremony.

Close to 2,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students are eligible to participate in this year's commencement. The grads range in age from 19 to 70 and hail from 56 foreign countries. Of the graduates, 82 percent are Nevada residents.

UNLV President Donald Snyder will honor two graduating students during the ceremony for their outstanding achievements. The honorees include a doctoral researcher dedicated to finding a cure for cancer and an undergraduate biologist uncovering the mysteries of Alzheimer's disease.

In addition, Snyder will also recognize Carol Harter, UNLV President Emerita, with an honorary Doctorate of Human Letters. Robert Larson Schofield, Jr. will receive the Distinguished Nevadan award for his contributions to the community and support of higher education. Schofield is a psychologist for the Nevada Department of Corrections.
