The Barrick Lecture Series presents nationally and internationally renowned speakers through a generous grant from philanthropist Marjorie Barrick.
Noted author, entrepreneur and television executive Nely Galán will present “Becoming Self Made.” Galán will share stories from her book about inspiring women who started and grew businesses out of ingenuity, opportunity and need. She’ll also empower those in attendance to take financial control of their own lives with a self-made mindset.
Nely Galán is the founder of Galán Entertainment and former president of entertainment of the Telemundo television network—the first Latina president at a major network. In 2016, she authored a New York Times bestselling book, “Self Made: Becoming Empowered, Self- Reliant, and Rich in Every Way” about the revolution in women’s entrepreneurship led by multicultural women in the U.S. and around the world.
Galán is an Emmy award- winning producer of over 700 television shows in English and Spanish. Her company also launched over ten television channels abroad for companies like HBO, ESPN, FOX, MGM and Sony. She is founder of the Adelante Foundation, a non-profit that seeks to empower and train Latinas and other enterprising women around the world, economically and entrepreneurially. Her digital platform, BecomingSelfMade.com, hosts content on financial literacy and self-made stories of women of color and offers a range of virtual and webinar programming.
Galán has spoken at the United Nations, The United States of Women and at major corporations such as Coca-Cola, American Express, J.P Morgan Chase, Morgan Stanley and Walmart—and at tech companies such as Google, Facebook, eBay and Uber.
Tickets
The lecture is free and open to the public but tickets are required. Tickets are limited to two per person and must be obtained in person from the Performing Arts Center box office, which is located off of Cottage Grove Avenue at S. Maryland Parkway on UNLV's campus.
