UNLV kicks off its fall semester Aug. 23. The following events are a snapshot of Rebel Connection activities, the UNLV orientation and welcome program for new and returning students. These events provide a variety of interesting photo and interview opportunities. Media interested in attending Rebel Connection events are asked to coordinate with the UNLV Office of Public Affairs.

Residence Hall Move-In

Thursday, Aug. 19 and Friday, Aug. 20 at 11 a.m.

Description:

More than 1,000 students are moving to campus and into the residence halls.

New Student Welcome & President's BBQ

Location:

Alumni Amphitheater near UNLV Student Union

Description:

UNLV President Neal Smatresk will officially welcome new students and their parents to the university during a campus BBQ.

Park in front of UNLV Student Union off Maryland Parkway and Frazier Way.

UNLV Fall Semester Begins

Date:

Monday, Aug. 23 at 8 a.m.

Description:

Throughout the day, UNLV staff will run "ask me" booths to answer students' questions. At 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.,students can take a campus tour, leaving from the Pida Plaza "ask me" booth near Student Union.

"Premier UNLV"

Date/Time:

Thursday, Aug. 26, 5 to 9 p.m.

Location:

North Field (east of the UNLV Student Union, near the Lied Library)

Description:

An annual tradition featuring fireworks and the formation of a giant illuminated "UNLV" created by hundreds of UNLV students and alumni with flashlights.

Media:

Arrive at UNLV's Beam Hall by 8:15 p.m. to be escorted to the building's roof where pictures can be taken. Park in front of Student Union off Maryland Parkway and Frazier Way.

UNLV Rebel Football Home Opener vs. University of Wisconsin

Description:

Join new UNLV head football coach Bobby Hauck and the Rebel football team as they take on the Big Ten's Wisconsin Badgers.

UNLV State of the University Speech

Tuesday, Sept. 14, 10 a.m.

Location:

UNLV Artemus Ham Hall

Description:

UNLV President Neal Smatresk will deliver his vision and goals for UNLV and provide an update on the university's financial situation.
