Jennifer Cole Dorsey, a UNLV alumna and partner with the Las Vegas law firm Kemp, Jones & Coulthard, was confirmed by the U.S. Senate this week as a federal district judge. She will serve the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada.
"Jennifer Dorsey will be a valuable addition to the United States District Court," said Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., in a statement. "I am impressed with her dedication to the state of Nevada, her community and the legal profession."
Dorsey was nominated for the seat in September by President Barack Obama and replaces Judge Larry Hicks, who vacated his seat late last year.
A specialist in civil litigation, complex commercial disputes, appeals and class actions, Dorsey has argued cases in the Nevada Supreme Court and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. She was also chosen to serve on the Nevada Supreme Court's Committee on Professionalism.
Dorsey, a Las Vegas native, received a bachelor of arts degree in communication studies from UNLV in 1994 and also graduated from the Pepperdine School of Law. She is currently a member of the advisory board for the UNLV Foundation.
