Low-income, first-generation college students, as well as disabled students, may receive federally funded assistance to complete high school, prepare for college, or pursue doctoral degrees through the TRIO programs provided by UNLV's department of academic advancement.
The programs, including Upward Bound, Educational Talent Search, Academic Support, and the Ronald E. McNair doctoral program, are funded by Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965.
While student financial aid programs help students overcome financial barriers to trig education, TRIO programs help students overcome class, social, and cultural barriers.
TRIO programs help students develop the skills and acquire the knowledge necessary achieve educational success by offenng services such as tutoring, one-on-one academic counseling, and mentoring. The programs also provide students opportunities to experience college firsthand.
