The 13th Outstanding Student Awards Banquet hosted by the UNLV Alliance of Professionals of African Heritage is scheduled for April 26.
The event, which is open to the public, will take place at 6 p.m. at the Moyer Student Union Ballroom. Tickets are $10 per person.
Kirby Burgess, Clark County's director of family and youth services, will be the keynote speaker. UNLV social work professor Esther Langston will serve as master of ceremonies.
During the event, outstanding students of African heritage will be recognized. Undergraduate students who have grade point averages of 3.0 or higher and graduate students with GPAs of 3.5 or higher will be recognized.
As part of the event, the following scholarships will be awarded:
-- The Roosevelt Fitzgerald Outstanding Student Award, based on academic achievement.
-- The Thomas Wilson Community Citizenship Award, based on outstanding community service.
