Steve Young, one of the most notable of an emerging generation of philanthropists -- and who is also a former quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers -- is the Wells Fargo Distinguished speaker for the 2001 UNLV Foundation Annual Dinner, to be held Saturday, April 21, at the Bellagio.
Each year this event honors the University's major donors and members of the President's Inner Circle, Academic Corporate Council and President's Associates. This year, the event will also commemorate the Foundation's 20th anniversary.
"We are pleased to pay tribute to the many individuals and corporations who support the University, not only with their financial contributions, but also with their time, resources and encouragement," said Don Snyder, the Chair of the UNLV Foundation Board of Trustees. "We deeply appreciate all that our supporters do to help UNLV achieve excellence in education. Our donors are critically important to the continued success and growth of the University."
This event also recognizes new members of the Palladium Society, the Foundation's honorary organization that includes donors who have contributed $1 million or more in lifetime gifts to the University. This year, the Foundation will induct Cox Communications, Inc., Stephens Group, Inc. and the UNLV Rebel Golf Foundation into the Society.
Young's appearance is sponsored by Wells Fargo Bank Nevada as part of the distinguished speaker's program. About 750 of Nevada's top professionals, entrepreneurs, and civic leaders attend this event.
Young is building an impressive reputation as a thoughtful spokesperson for philanthropy and education, bringing the same intensity and excellence to this work as he brought to his football career. He earned both his undergraduate and law degrees from Brigham Young University, and is the founder and chair of the Forever Young Foundation, which is actively involved in children's charities.
Students and faculty from the Department of Fine Arts will provide the entertainment for the evening. For more information about the event, please contact Stacey Fish at (702) 895-3641.
