Stephen E. Rosenbaum, director of the University Honors Program at Illinois State University, has been selected as the new dean of UNLV's Honors College, university President Carol C. Harter announced Monday (May 6).
Rosenbaum is expected to begin work on Aug. 1.
"Stephen Rosenbaum has a proven track record in honors education, and we are very much looking forward to having him join our ranks at UNLV," Harter said. "He has a number of innovative ideas for the college, and I am looking forward to seeing how our already strong honors program matures under his guidance."
UNLV Provost Ray Alden said, "Dr. Rosenbaum has an excellent reputation as a scholar and as an academic leader. He has experience in successfully leading a large honors program at Illinois State University. Thus, we are excited that he will bring his expertise and perspective to guide the development of our rapidly growing Honors College."
A professor of philosophy, Rosenbaum has served as director of the University Honors Program at Illinois State since 1998. He arrived at Illinois State, which is located in Normal, in 1971. Previously, he taught at the University of Vermont, Illinois Wesleyan University, and the University of Illinois - Urbana.
He earned a doctoral degree in philosophy from the University of Illinois - Urbana in 1974 and also earned a master's degree in philosophy there. He holds a bachelor's degree in philosophy and history from Baylor University.
Approximately 750 students are enrolled in UNLV's Honors College. Students may choose from two tracks -- university honors or departmental honors.
