The UNLV Performing Arts Center welcomes the St. Petersburg Ballet Theatre as they perform three ballets from Sergei Diaghilev's "The Russian Season" at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 16 as part of the Charles Vanda Master Series. The ballets include Chopiniana, Capriccio Italien, and Scheherazade.
Founded in 1966 as the younger sibling of the Kirov and Bolshoi Ballet Theatres, the St. Petersburg Ballet Theatre consistently demonstrates technical excellence and nobility and is widely known for constantly expanding its sphere of creativity. The company's repertoire consists of both classical and modern ballet performances - more than 60 dance items and 20 one-act ballets.
The company, lead by artistic director Yuri Petukhov, regularly gives performances not only on its prestigious home stages, but also in Moscow and many other major cities across Russia. They have toured to more than 50 nations, performing with great success to sold-out audiences and garnering glowing reviews.
Tickets to the St. Petersburg Ballet Theatre's performance are $40, $55, and $85 and can be purchased at the Performing Arts Center Box Office at 895-ARTS (2787) or by visiting <a href="http://www.unlvtickets.com">UNLVTickets.com</a>. Student rush tickets are $12.50 each and available one hour prior to each event, based on availability and with valid student I.D. UNLV faculty and staff discounts also are available. A $.50 facilities fee, in addition to the ticket price, is charged on all Performing Arts Center tickets. The box office is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Founded in 1976, the Performing Arts Center at UNLV continues to be Southern Nevada's premier performing arts venue.
