Pianists Alfredo Oyaguez and Jose Gallego will present a lecture and recital of Spanish piano music at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5, inside the Doc Rando Recital Hall in the Beam Music Center. The performance is free and open to the public.
Alfredo Oyaguez is a graduate of Yale University, where he earned a Master of Music degree. He has also completed a Master of Music degree in conducting and is currently a doctoral candidate in piano performance at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB).
He was the associate conductor and general manager of the UCSB Symphony Orchestra and Opera Theater and a lecturer for the conducting department at the UCSB department of music. A native of Spain, he graduated from the Madrid Royal Conservatory with a High Degree in Music and the Piano Professor Diploma.
Jose Gallego was born in Valladolid, Spain, where he began his musical studies. He subsequently graduated with honors from the Royal Conservatory of Madrid. In 1990 he studied at Alcala de Henares University.
He is an avid performer of contemporary music and has released a recording, produced by the Spanish Authors Society, of works by prominent modern Spanish composers. He is a former professor of the Cuenca and Madrid Conservatories, and he currently holds a teaching position at the Manuel de Falla music school and the Madrid State Conservatory as well as a staff accompanist position at the Queen Sofia Music School.
