The UNLV Yucca Mountain Education Project will host a town hall meeting Sept. 14 that will feature a panel of experts from the fields of solar, wind, and geothermal energy who will discuss the topic of "Alternative Solutions to Nuclear Energy."
The meeting, which is free and open to the public, will be held 6-9 p.m. in the auditorium of the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Natural History.
Dr. Robert Boehm, director of UNLV's Center for Energy Research and a professor of mechanical engineering, will serve as the meeting's moderator. The featured speakers are: Bob Cable, an engineer for the Duke Solar company; Bash Nola, vice president of the wind-power-generation firm, Global Renewal Energy; Dan Schochet, vice president of the geothermal company, ORMAT International; and Steven C. Oldham, senior vice president of corporate and strategic development for Sierra Pacific Resources, who will provide perspective from an utility company.
Each of the experts will give a short presentation, which will be followed by a question and answer session that will be open to audience participation.

The UNLV Yucca Mountain Education Project is a multidisciplinary effort by interested faculty and staff of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, to create a balanced information resource for the general public on the subject of high-level radioactive waste repositories. The goal of the project is to present both positive and negative aspects of the proposed Yucca Mountain high-level radioactive waste repository so that the general public can be informed.
