Senior adults interested in learning more about UNLV's senior theatre program are invited to an informational meeting and party at 10 a.m. June 25 in the Holbert H. Hendrix Auditorium at UNLV.
Information on theatre productions and degree programs for senior adults will be presented. In addition, Lori Slinn, coordinator of programs for older students, will discuss the Extended Studies Center for Lifelong Learning and registration procedures.
Founded in 1990, the senior theatre program offers older students a variety of classes from acting and creative dramatics to directing and playwriting, as well as a first-in-the nation bachelor of arts degree in senior adult theatre. Senior adults can work onstage or backstage, and no previous theatre experience is necessary.
"Whatever your interest -- ushering, building scenery, auditioning for plays -- there are many opportunities available for older students," said Ann McDonough, director of the program.
Classes for fall semester begin in late August. Adults age 62 and older who meet residency requirements may earn up to six credits tuition-free per semester on a space-available basis.
The event is free and open to the public, but reservations are required.
