Elementary, middle, and high school students from throughout the Las Vegas Valley will demonstrate their inventiveness at the 37th Southern Nevada Science and Engineering Fair at UNLV on March 12 and 13.

The event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by two of UNLV's colleges, the College of Science and the Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering. Students will present a wide range of engineering and science projects during the fair.

The fair will be open to the public 9:30 a.m. - 9 p.m. March 12 and 9 a.m. - noon March 13. The work of the elementary and middle school students will be set up in the North Gym of the McDermott Physical Education Complex. The projects of high school students will be on display in the Robert L. Bigelow Physics Building.

The categories of entries for high school students include behavioral and social sciences, biochemistry, botany, chemistry, computer science, earth and space sciences, engineering, environmental sciences, gerontology, mathematics, medicine and health, microbiology, physics, and zoology.

The awards ceremony for the fair will take place later in the month. It is scheduled for 5 p.m. March 25 in the Great Hall of the Thomas T. Beam Engineering Complex on the UNLV campus. The awards ceremony also is open to the public.
